Acupuncture has become a very popular choice among people who seek effective pain relief. There are more and more acupuncturists entering the field on an annual basis. If you have been thinking about seeing an acupuncturist for your pain, it is important that you understand what is involved. In this article, you’ll find helpful information.

If your health insurance doesn’t currently cover acupuncture, write a letter to your insurance agency. Better yet, if you’re on a corporate insurance plan, ask your human resources director to write a letter stipulating the desire for acupuncture to be added. Many plants don’t currently cover it, but you can make a difference in working towards it.

Keep an open mind. Regardless of what you thought about acupuncture in the past, remember that a large number of patients often report feeling better the day they receive their treatment. Go in to your appointment and maintain an optimistic outlook. You will feel better about everything that is going on if you do.

Be very selective when you are trying to schedule a time for your acupuncture treatment. Don’t schedule them close to strenuous activities. Also, stress is likely to be higher in between activities, so do not go to acupuncture sessions during this time. You will have a hard time relaxing under these circumstances.

Check that your practitioner accepts your insurance, and be sure that acupuncture is covered by your health insurance. By determining insurance coverage in advance, you will have the ability to concentrate just on treatment once your sessions start. Less stress will make your treatments more beneficial.

Have a basic understanding of what acupuncture treatment looks like before taking part of it. Typically, you will undergo approximately twenty sessions before really seeing results. If you cannot commit to the entire treatment series, you might be wasting your time, as no benefits will be seen. Make sure that this time commitment will work for you before signing on.

While you may anticipate feeling pain, you will not. Acupuncture is usually painless. The needles are very thin and from a distance they are not easily seen. You may feel a tiny pinch when they’re being inserted but you may not even feel that.

If you decide to follow an acupuncture treatment on the long term for a recurring problem, try scheduling your appointments ahead of time. You should meet with your acupuncturist once a week or once every other week, if possible at the same time. Continue your treatment until your problem disappears.

Insomnia is one condition that acupuncture can really help resolve. Weekly treatments should help you relax and adopt a more regular schedule. Make your acupuncture treatment part of your schedule. Talk to your acupuncturist about insomnia to get a few tips on exercises you can use to fall asleep easily.

Don’t expect a massive turn around from one treatment only. Acupuncture takes a whole course of treatments to see the full benefits. Most people report not seeing any benefits until after the first few courses, so be patient. Go into your treatments knowing this is not a “one and done” scenario.

All reputable acupuncture providers use new needles for each session. New needles are the only way to ensure they are completely sterile. If you even think that needles are being reused, you need to leave immediately. It is not worth the risk and you can easily find a practitioner who uses clean needles.

Once you finish a treatment, do not head right to the gym. While some exercise is okay, it should not be anything too intensive. For instance, if you generally run a mile each evening after work, scale it back to a walk instead. Continue to live your life as you normally with, just add in a few modifications.

Schedule your acupuncture treatments carefully. You should not get an acupuncture treatment between two other obligations or after a strenuous activity. Take a few hours to relax before your appointment and make sure you have plenty of free time afterward so you do not feel too stressed during your treatment.

In your first session with your acupuncturist, make sure that you disclose all details of your medical history. The acupuncturist will need a complete picture of your health history before recommending a course of treatment. Tell him about the medications that you are currently taking so noting is left out.

Acupuncturists often recommend herbal treatments prior to a session. These herbs may be beneficial, however, they can also cause side-effects, or interactions with other medications you may be taking. Make sure your doctor knows what you have been advised to take so they can look into any potential reactions.

Sometimes acupuncture can leave you feeling sore, particularly on your feet and hands. Generally, the soreness will go away in a day’s time, although you may experience some issues for up to a week later. Simply try to stay off your feet as much as possible, and allow your hands to rest as well.

Form an opinion about acupuncture before you get any sessions. For some, acupuncture is bunk. For others, it is a potentially potent treatment for overall health. No, you won’t know totally what side of the fence you’re on until after your full sessions, but if it’s obviously not for you up front, don’t go into it at all. Look to other solutions.

It is best to receive your acupuncture treatments on a regular basis. Schedule two weekly appointments for your first month and change the frequency of your appointments in function of how efficient they are. If your chronic pain or your stress is mostly gone, a monthly appointment might be enough.

While you may not be an expert on acupuncture yet, you can still ask your potential practitioners questions to help you determine if they are the one for you. For example, ask them to tell you about a patient they have treated successfully and one they haven’t and then judge their answer for care and empathy.
