There are ads everywhere around that tell you what you should be doing with your hair and what products to use. However, they are just trying to sell you a product. By taking the time to read the following article, you will find some simple things that will really truly work at keeping your hair looking great.

For minimizing breakage, be sure that your hair is completely wet prior to applying shampoo. Don’t use any more than about a quarter-size dollop. Then proceed to rub the shampoo in between your palms to start with. Be sure to lather up for no more than 30 seconds or so.

When you are washing your hair, do it in two separate steps. Take half the shampoo you would typically use for your whole head and wash your roots with that. Rinse that out, and then use some more shampoo to wash the hair shafts. This technique ensures that you wash all the hair and not just your roots.

Make sure that you do not use shampoo each and every day. This can lead to your hair becoming very fragile and also dandruff over time. Try to shampoo and wash your hair two or three times per week if you want to achieve the best possible look and feel.

If you notice you have dandruff in your hair, it is crucial to treat it right away. This way, you can avoid excessive flakes and itching. The ideal way to treat dandruff, whether a small or big amount of it, is to use shampoos that contain zinc pyrithione or selenuim sulfide.

Hair should not be washed daily. If you have not had a day where your hair has gotten excessively dirty, then do not wash it. A schedule of washing every 2-3 days will prevent your hair from drying out. You will spend less time trying to rejuvenate your hair, and more time focusing on enjoying it.

Avoid using any hair care products that contain alcohol. Alcohol has a drying affect and can make hair brittle. Broken, dry hair looks unhealthy and messy. Sparingly use hair care products that are free from alcohol to style your hair. Using a lot of styling products can damage your hair.

To protect your hair sleep on a silk or satin pillow case. Cotton pillowcases are known to dry out hair and take the moisture and oils out of it. Satin pillowcases protect your hair and allows you to wake with beautiful curls. You might also want to use a satin scarf or bonnet too.

If you can live a healthy life, your hair will generally be healthier too. Avoid stress and harmful activities such as smoking, get enough exercise, drink lots of water, and you will have great looking hair. It may be hard to believe, but these simple steps along with a good night’s sleep can make a big difference in the healthy look of your hair.

If you color your hair, try to minimize doing it to around once every two months. Hair dying can dry out and damage your hair with harsh chemicals. If you limit it to every two months, your hair will have time to recover from the damage that you had done previously.

Alcohol in hair products is a no-no for your hair. This is a sure way to increase the dryness of your hair. Also, do not place products directly on the scalp, because irritation and clogged pores may result. If you have these issues it can make your hair look bad.

The first two or three inches of hair growing from your scalp is only about six months old. It’s the most healthy part of your hair. You do not need as much conditioner on this part of your hair, but the lower sections can benefit. Hair ends tend to be much drier, with more damage, and can benefit from a good conditioner.

While hair spray can be a life saver, it’s not something that you should use too much of. Because it keeps your hair so stiff, it can be damaging. Overly stiff hair also looks very unnatural. Only use hair spray when you absolutely need to. You’ll find your hair looks and feels better.

Very dry hair benefits from deep conditioning. If your hair is dry and brittle, you can really help it with a home deep- conditioning treatment. You should slightly dampen your clean hair. Use a generous amount of a thicker conditioner to thoroughly massage throughout your hair. Then, cover your head with a plastic shower cap and allow the conditioner to soak in for a half hour. After that, simply rinse away and your hair will have more moisture than ever before.

Hair care products like sprays and gel should not be applied directly to the scalp. These items could potentially clog up the pores located on your scalp and create issues with pimples or affect hair growth. Instead, try to make sure these products stay on your hair.

If you have curly hair, use conditioners and shampoos that are specifically designed for curly hair. This allows you to get the moisture and cleaning that your hair needs. It will also help you reduce frizz that many people that have curly hair experience.

Conditioner is one of the best things that you can use in your hair care regimen, as it helps to create a shield from wind and airborne bacteria outdoors. Use conditioner after shampoo in the morning before work or school to maintain a comfortable feeling throughout the day and night.

Even if you just need a quick snip of a trim, never use regular household or dull scissors to cut your hair. Hair cutting needs to be done with specialized and sufficiently sharp scissors or you risk damaging it and throwing off your entire style! Look for affordable hair cutting scissors and reserve these to use for hair only.
